Research project in progress.
The Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Suffield is host to the largest military training area in Canada. Located in south-eastern Alberta it includes a live-fire training area for use by the Canadian Armed Forces, Defence Research and Development Canada – Suffield Research Centre (DRDC–SRC), the British Army Training Unit Suffield (BATUS), and other NATO members. As with all military facilities, the activities undertaken at CFB Suffield are shrouded in secrecy. In the context of the site’s history, Kavanagh’s investigation includes photographic documentation, material artefacts, historical records, and narrative accounts gathered during an exclusive 3-day site tour. Her work offers a glimpse of the contemporary infrastructures and activities that continue to unfold at this unique and remote location.
